Katie, founder of Local Girl Design

Our Story

Hi, I'm Katie.

I've wanted to be an entrepreneur since I announced it at a 4th grade Girl Scouts meeting. I just didn't know yet that it would look like this. A year into graphic design school, I fell in love with hand-designing apparel and accessories inspired by the moments and places that matter most to me, the streets of Boston I grew up around, the coastline of Nantucket, the everyday rituals that feel like home.

Everything I make is designed around comfort first. The cup sleeve that keeps your hands dry on your morning iced coffee run. The sweatshirt that tells the story of a place you love while keeping you cozy. I want you to put something on and feel like you're carrying a small piece of somewhere special, a little nostalgia, a little pride, a lot of comfort.

I'm Katie, a graphic designer and lifelong New Englander based in Boston. Local Girl Design is my love letter to the places and moments worth remembering.

Things you should know about me

  • My ideal meal is as many sushi rolls as I can possibly stomach (preferably a spicy salmon), paired with a dirty martini with extra blue cheese olives.
  • I firmly believe you haven't truly experienced Fenway until you've had a Fenway frank with mustard. Ketchup is not the move.
  • Iced coffee is a year-round lifestyle, not a seasonal one. This is non-negotiable.
  • I studied abroad in Australia and met an albino kangaroo on the Gold Coast. I also went skydiving on that trip, which was either the bravest or most unhinged thing I've ever done. Still deciding.
  • I keep a basket of cup sleeves in my car at all times. Occupational hazard.
  • Currently obsessed with getting back into running and tracking every mile with approximately four different apps, plus needlepointing on the couch immediately after.
  • Current rewatch rotation: Dawson's Creek and Gilmore Girls. Always accepting recommendations from fellow people who wish they lived in Stars Hollow.
